Tegatana No Kata (The Walking Kata)

Tegatana No Kata or the "Walking Kata" is the most important tool in the practice of KiHara Aikido. By mastering the movements of this kata you can master Aikido itself. Besides its ability to be practiced alone as well as in a group, it holds within its movements, the entire secrets of Aikido. To better your study in Aikido, you must keep your mind free and always par your movements down to their most basic. Be aware of the weight distribution of the feet while moving. Maintain the “unbendable arm”. Let your center drop in every step and when practicing with the class try to move in sync with the person leading and try to end the kata on the same spot in which you began.

Hanasu No Kata (The Wrist Release Kata)

Hanasu No Kata is the “Form of Releases” which is performed with a partner. Taking the fundamental principles we learn from Tegatana No Kata, this kata teaches the student how to maintain balance, diffuse an attack, and break a partner’s balance. As in Tegatana No Kata, the movements and principles learned in this exercise are found throughout later techniques. As with all Aikido wazas began with the left hand. For viewing purposes, the right hand side of the techniques will be used.
